BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN WEEK

Notables this week

What an amazing past weekend with my family! Truly, a great celebration of life with loved ones. Its was really nice getting the band back together sans Emmy. Sorry sista, we missed you! Next time! I can’t wait for the next family group gathering and when will it be!? Hope everyone can make it work!

Another Amazing! but sad thing that happened last week. Never did I think that I could fall in love so fucking quick and lose it all in the same day. Truly heart breaking. Monday of last week, I received my Pedal H/T electric bike. I built it right away after work, stayed up way too late kind of excited. I let the battery charge all night. I rode it to work and home and was able to get a little taste of its power. Then, Wednesday, it rained all day and I couldn’t use it all. Thursday on my actual Off Day, the weather lined up perfectly! I rode this baby around the entire city and lakefront. I was head over heals in love and couldn’t even fathom the power of what I own right now. I went to bed an extremely happy man. I woke up Friday morning and got to it right away with my exercise classes because normally I run 2 miles and then do my 45 min workout classes but this time I wanted to run on the lakefront. I finished my 45min class and immediately hopped on my Pedal H/T electric bike and zipped to the lakefront. I found a spot to lock it up and then ran 4 miles on the lakefront. I felt on top of the world! Especially when I was riding my bike back home to shower before work. I stopped off and grabbed a buffalo chicken salad from Homeslice to get something in me. After that, I was riding home and right around Western and North ave, my back tire popped. I was devastated. I had just gotten this bike. I had to walk my bike back home, holding up the back tire from touching the ground. I carried that bike all the way to Kedzie. Thats 1.3 miles after I did a 45min HIIT Class and a 4 mile run along the lakefront. WOOF! Then I had to rush to work and was late. But even though I was devastated, I told this sad news to my friends Brian and Nico and the boys came through and ordered some new tubes and going to help me get my baby back up and running. They’re the best!

It’s Fourth of July week! It was one of my favorites as a kid. It was a coming of age moment for me and embracing the discovery of freedom at the age of 13-15 biking all over the City of Skokie and Morton Grove. Sitting on the roof of friends houses watching fireworks going off. Having Cheeseburgers and Hotdogs and Brats. Potato Salad and Corn on the cob. Glow sticks and sitting on blankets. I remember one year the Park District handed out these special glasses that made the fireworks shimmer when they exploded. Then getting older and in my late teens early twenties, going up to my friends lake house and having amazing memories of that and taking a “vacation” without your immediately family was another new freedom I was feeling back then. I guess I miss the simpler times of being youthful and being happy with what you have and in the moment. I feel like now a days it can seem more political than anything. Well, I will always think back and reflect on those joyous moments of my life during these simpler times. Learn to be happy with the freedom I have today and created.

Entertainment this week

T.V. - This 4 piece documentary was an amazing watch. Why I recommend this TV watch is because it features Mr. Born in the USA and his hard work ethic. And how much Jimmy Iovine was influenced by Bruce. A must watch.

Movies - This is how serious I take the fourth of July. This movie is so damn funny. This movie and Team America are my two favorite FOJ movies. TOP 2! Independence day is number 3.

Music - For whatever reason, this song, which I love so much, is forever embedded in my brain as FOJ. It really makes me think small town shit. But the good qualities of small town shit. Simplicity. Simple living. America.
